Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins usually seen in the legs due to malfunctioning valves that hinder proper blood flow. While mild cases may be managed with lifestyle changes and compression stockings, more advanced or symptomatic cases often require interventional treatment. Common options include Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT), Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), and surgical procedures like ligation and stripping or phlebectomy. These treatments aim to close off or remove the faulty veins, allowing blood to reroute through healthier vessels and relieving symptoms like pain, swelling, and heaviness.

Laser and RFA treatments are minimally invasive and performed under local anesthesia. A catheter is inserted into the affected vein, and thermal energy—either laser or radiofrequency—is used to seal the vein from the inside. These procedures offer quicker recovery, minimal discomfort, and excellent cosmetic results. In more severe cases or when minimally invasive techniques are not suitable, surgical options are still effective and may be combined with other methods. Treatment selection depends on the severity of the vein disease, patient preference, and clinical assessment, with all approaches aiming to improve both function and appearance.
